Soldier Commits Suicide at Ogun Barracks

A tragic incident unfolded at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, in Abeokuta, Ogun state, as a Nigerian Army soldier identified as Boyi Thankgod took his own life. The soldier reportedly shot himself in the head while on standby duty during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, leaving a scene of sorrow and bewilderment.

 

According to sources, Thankgod was discovered lifeless in a pool of his own blood, his head severed by the impact of the self-inflicted gunshot. The incident has sparked an ongoing investigation at the Ogun Barracks to unravel the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s tragic decision.

 

An official source at the barracks confirmed the incident, stating that all soldiers present during the incident have been taken into custody. The military police are diligently conducting an investigation, taking statements from those present to piece together the events leading up to the soldier’s suicide. The process includes the standard procedures for such incidents.

 

The Brigade Command’s Spokesman, Mohammed Goni, and the Police Command’s Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, are yet to provide comments on the incident at the time of this report.

 

As the military police continue their investigation, the barracks remains somber over the loss, awaiting conclusive details that will shed light on the factors that led to this tragic episode. The soldier’s suicide raises questions about the mental well-being and support systems within the armed forces, an aspect that may be explored as part of the investigation.
