Kalu Commends Tinubu for Signing South East Development Commission Bill

 

 

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enacting the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law, facilitating the establishment of the commission.

 

Kalu, who sponsored the bill alongside other lawmakers from the South East region, highlighted the significance of this legislative milestone. “The commission is tasked with managing funds from the federation account to address the reconstruction and rehabilitation needs of roads, housing, and other infrastructure damaged during the civil war, which occurred over five decades ago,” he explained.

 

The SEDC will also address ecological issues and other environmental and developmental challenges in the South East states, which include Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi. The establishment of the commission is seen as a crucial step in fostering long-term development and stability in the region.

 

Expressing his gratitude in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu thanked President Tinubu, his colleagues in the National Assembly, and Nigerians for their support. “I profoundly appreciate President Tinubu, my fellow lawmakers, and all Nigerians for their unwavering support in making this bill a reality,” Kalu stated.

 

He further conveyed the appreciation of the Ndi Igbo from the South East region, assuring them of continued positive attention from the President.
