Benin Republic Coach Gernot Rohr Claims Super Eagles “Lucky” After 1-1 Draw in AFCON Qualifier
The Benin Republic’s national team coach, Gernot Rohr, expressed mixed emotions following Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The match, played on Thursday night, saw Mohamed Tijani put Benin ahead in the 16th minute, only for Victor Osimhen to equalize for Nigeria in the 81st minute.
“We were unlucky not to win, considering our better chances and organization,” Rohr said in a post-game press conference. “Nigeria is undoubtedly a formidable opponent, but had we capitalized on our scoring opportunities when leading 1-0, the outcome might have been different.”
