UAE suspends transit visas, enforces tougher entry requirements for Nigerians
The United Arab Emirates has introduced stricter entry requirements for Nigerian travelers and has completely suspended the issuance of transit visas.
Travel agents confirmed the development on Tuesday, citing new directives from Dubai immigration authorities. Under the updated rules, Nigerian nationals aged between 18 and 45 will no longer be eligible for tourist visas unless they are accompanied.
For applicants aged 45 and above, a personal six-month bank statement must be submitted, showing a minimum monthly balance of $10,000 (or the equivalent in naira) at the end of each month.
According to travel agents, the new policy is expected to significantly impact travel from Nigeria to Dubai, a popular destination for both tourism and business.
A notice issued to travel agencies stated: “Nigerian nationals aged 18 to 45 traveling alone are not eligible for tourist visas. Applicants aged 45 and above must provide a personal bank statement covering the past six months, with each month showing a closing balance of at least $10,000 or its naira equivalent.
“Please ensure these requirements are met before submitting applications, in addition to standard documents such as hotel reservations and passport data pages,” the notice added.
