Ogun LG Secures $250 Million Partnership to Transform Local Communities
Odogbolu Local Government Area in Ogun State has entered into a $250 million partnership with Skillicorn Nigeria Limited to drive community transformation through the New Circular Economy (NCE) project.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place at the residence of the LG chairman, Babatunde Diya, with traditional rulers, community leaders, and councillors in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Sunday Adegbuyi, Managing Director of Skillicorn Nigeria Limited, explained that the NCE project aims to deliver electricity, pipe-borne water, modern toilet facilities, and kitchen gardens to residents—entirely free of charge.
He stated, “This initiative is designed to offer a sustainable solution to the community’s needs, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Odogbolu Local Government to bring it to life.”
“The project is not a charity, but a partnership model in which households will actively participate in the economic activities that generate the benefits they enjoy.”
He continued, “Around 30 per cent of the output will be consumed at home—improving nutrition and well-being, while the balance will be marketed daily into Lagos’s premium retail, hospitality, and health-conscious consumer sectors.
“Some families may choose to sell their entire output, leveraging the project’s distribution and pricing power to generate substantial passive income.”
The pilot phase of the project, estimated to cost over $21 million, will initially cover 80 households in Eyinwa town.
The initiative is set to generate 28 megawatts of electricity, benefiting not only Eyinwa but also other communities within Odogbolu Local Government and across Ogun State.
The LG chairman emphasized that the project aligns with his administration’s objectives of job creation, revenue generation, and sustainable economic growth.
“The partnership with Skillicorn Nigeria Limited marks a significant milestone in our efforts to provide affordable and sustainable energy to every community in Odogbolu Local Government,” he said.
“This project will enhance the quality of life for our residents and contribute to the broader economic development of our state and nation,” Diya added.
He also highlighted the project’s importance and assured that the government would work to ensure its sustainability.
“The initiative is expected to create over 200 direct jobs, boost economic activities in the area, improve food security, and promote economic independence among the participating communities,” he concluded.
