The Super Falcons of Nigeria have won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), defeating host nation Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final held in Rabat on Saturday night.

The victory marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, extending their dominance as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

The game started with Morocco taking an early lead, scoring twice in the first half through Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy. However, Nigeria mounted an impressive comeback in the second half. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty in the 64th minute, followed by Flourish Sabastine’s equalizer in the 71st minute. Jennifer Echegini sealed the victory for Nigeria with a decisive goal in the 88th minute.

The match was played in front of a capacity crowd in Rabat, with Morocco seeking to win their first-ever WAFCON title. But Nigeria’s experience and resilience proved decisive, as the Falcons overturned the two-goal deficit to silence the home crowd.

With this win, Nigeria completes its self-named “Mission X,” a reference to their goal of claiming a 10th continental crown. The Super Falcons had previously won the title in 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018.
