Ogun vows to prosecute saw miller for hitting wife
The Ogun State Government has condemned the viral video showing a well-known saw miller, Fatai Quadri, from Ilese Ijebu in Ijebu North East Local Government Area, physically assaulting his wife, vowing that justice will be pursued in the disturbing case.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, told our correspondent on Saturday that Fatai had been arrested and was currently under investigation.
In the viral clip, the man was seen repeatedly punching his wife on the head and neck while she cried out in Yoruba, “Fatai ma pa mi,” which translates to, “Fatai, please don’t kill me.”
Reports allege that Fatai has a history of battering his wife, prompting a neighbour—who had grown weary of the abuse—to secretly record the assault during another incident on September 15, 2025.
Speaking over the incident on Saturday, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Mr Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, described the incident as very reprehensible, saying that the government is unhappy with such rascality and that the suspect, who is already in police custody, would be taken to court on Monday.
Mr Ogungbade explained that “the government is aware of the viral video and we condemn it in its totality. The suspect is in police custody already. The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo has been very proactive concerning it. The matter is being transferred to the Gender Unit. He will be arraigned in Court on Monday”.
The Attorney General said that the state government has always warned against all sorts of criminal acts, particularly gender-based violence and that this particular incident will be another opportunity to drive home the present administration’s posture of zero tolerance to such condemnable act.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed that she had instructed a state official to closely monitor the case, assuring that the government would see to it that justice is done.
According to her, “The government strongly condemns such criminal behavior. Our stance has always been zero tolerance for gender-based violence. The suspect will certainly face the consequences of his actions, and I want to assure the people of Ogun State that justice will prevail.”
She added that the suspect had already been arrested and would be arraigned in court on Monday, noting that officials of her ministry would be present to provide support and ensure the case is properly handled.
