Lagos Police Reinforce Peace and Safety Amid Nationwide Protest Reports
The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that the state remains peaceful and secure despite reports of protests in other parts of the country.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, conveyed this message during a “Show of Force” exercise held on Monday in Ikeja. He explained that the patrol was part of ongoing efforts to affirm the safety of residents and demonstrate the police’s commitment to maintaining peace across Lagos.
Jimoh stated that strategic deployments had been made to key locations that have previously experienced protests, including Lekki Toll Gate, Ojota, Maryland, Gani Fawehinmi Park, and other critical areas in the metropolis.
“We want residents to know they are safe and can go about their daily activities without fear,” he emphasized. “We have positioned officers at all known protest hotspots to ensure peace is upheld.”
He further explained that the purpose of the “Show of Force” was to deter troublemakers and prevent any individuals from disrupting public order under the guise of protests.
“While protests are a democratic right, any attempt to take law into your own hands and cause chaos is unacceptable,” Jimoh warned. “We will not allow anyone to infringe on others’ rights or disturb the peace.”
The police chief also disclosed that all police formations across Lagos have been instructed to send situation reports every 15 minutes for real-time monitoring. So far, there have been no reports of unrest, traffic disruptions, or attacks. Areas such as Ojota, Maryland, and Lekki continue to remain calm, with visible police presence maintained.
“Lagos remains safe, peaceful, and free from protests. We will continue our patrols and monitoring efforts to sustain the tranquility residents currently enjoy,” Jimoh assured.
