Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has addressed rumors regarding a police case he allegedly faced in the United Kingdom during his early career.
The clarification comes after his former associate, Bankulli, disclosed at a recent event that Don Jazzy had a run-in with the law in the UK following a car accident that drew police attention. According to Bankulli, Don Jazzy reportedly removed the vehicle’s license plates and fled the scene after police arrived.
Bankulli shared, “I chose not to include a story about Don Jazzy in the Afrobeats documentary because of his situation in London. He had an accident while coming from a show, and the car was destroyed. He abandoned the car, removed the plates, and ran away. It cost more to tow the car than to repair it. But look at him now—he owns fleets of cars.”
Reacting to the revelation on social media, an X user expressed concern, warning that the case could be reopened if Don Jazzy visits the UK now that the story has become public. “With this reckless talk from Bankulli, I really hope Don Jazzy isn’t planning a trip to London. They can reopen a 20-year-old case!” the user commented.
In response, Don Jazzy reassured fans not to worry. He explained that he did not evade the police as claimed. He said that when police arrived, they administered a breathalyzer test, which he passed, confirming he wasn’t intoxicated. He added that his car was impounded, but he chose to leave it because the fine to retrieve it was higher than the car’s value.
“Lol, no need to panic. It’s been so long, maybe he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They gave me a breathalyzer test, and I was sober. My car was impounded, but the fine to get it back was more than the car was worth, so I left it with them,” Don Jazzy explained.
