Daddy Freeze Insists Wizkid Must Prove Activism to Be Compared to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti

Media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has expressed his views on the ongoing comparisons between singer Wizkid and the late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Daddy Freeze emphasized that Wizkid cannot be equated with Fela, pointing out that Fela’s influence extended well beyond music. He highlighted that Fela was not only a legendary musician but also a passionate activist and philanthropist.

In a video broadcast, Daddy Freeze stated that for Wizkid to legitimately compare himself to Fela, he would need to protest against the government and fight for civil rights.

He remarked, “Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and challenge the government, he shouldn’t compare himself to Fela. Did you know that Fela was released from prison just to prevent him from dying there? They released him to die at home because they knew his death would cause an uproar if he died in prison. That was in 1995, I was a fresher in university then.”

Daddy Freeze added, “Fela was not a troublemaker; he was a freedom fighter. We’re talking about music, but I can’t discuss Fela without acknowledging everything he stood for. His activism and his music were inseparable. You can’t talk about one without the other.”
