Ogun Police Hunt Suspects After Rescuing 11 Alleged Visa Scam Victims

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals who were allegedly held against their will in Sagamu after being lured to Nigeria with promises of Canadian and Spanish visas.
The rescued group comprises seven men and four women. Police said the victims had each reportedly paid GH₵40,000 to a fellow Ghanaian who claimed he could arrange their travel abroad. They were allegedly detained after arriving in Nigeria.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided a suspected hideout in Sagamu and freed all 11 people. Police said the victims were rescued safely.
The operation followed reports that the group had been deceived with assurances that they would receive visas and travel overseas. Investigators believe the case may involve a wider network operating across national borders.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their swift response and successful rescue operation. He said the state would not provide a safe haven for criminals who exploit people’s hopes and aspirations for a better future.
The Command said efforts are continuing to identify and arrest everyone suspected of involvement in the alleged scheme. Police have not provided further details about the suspects or the circumstances surrounding the victims’ confinement.
The case highlights the risks faced by people seeking overseas opportunities through informal or unverified travel arrangements. Authorities urge prospective travellers to exercise caution, verify the credentials of visa agents and use official channels when applying for visas or arranging travel.
Police have not said whether any suspects have been arrested so far. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
