Sagamu LG Engages Oke Aredi Occupants, Approves Land Ratification Process

Sagamu Local Government has engaged occupants of Oke Aredi under the Precious Community Development Association, approving a land ratification process to regularise their stay on the land. The engagement took place earlier today at the council secretariat, with the Local Government management and members of the Land Advisory Committee led by its Chairman, Bashorun Awosanya Adebayo.

At the meeting, the occupants acknowledged that the land in question belongs to Sagamu Local Government, following confirmation by the Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development in Abeokuta. They appealed to the council to consider lawful options to regularise and ratify their occupancy. Responding, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Odulate, noted that while his administration would not pull down existing structures, it also has a duty to safeguard public property. He welcomed the dialogue and stressed the importance of resolving the issue amicably, assuring residents of a fair and lawful pathway forward.

As a goodwill gesture, the Local Government approved a land ratification process for eligible occupants. Upon successful completion, beneficiaries will receive a Customary Right of Occupancy Certificate. Speaking for the occupants, Mrs. Adenuga thanked the council leadership and the Land Advisory Committee for their understanding, and commended the Executive Chairman for his fatherly approach to resolving the matter.

Sagamu Local Government said it remains focused on constructive engagement with residents, fairness in decision-making, and the protection of public assets, while keeping the welfare of the people at the centre of governance.
