Sagamu Remains Calm Despite Isolated Security Concerns — Chairman Odulate
The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Jubril Olasile Odulate, has said the area remains relatively peaceful, with no major security threats recorded in recent times.
Odulate made this known after presiding over the council’s monthly statutory security meeting, where stakeholders reviewed the security situation across the local government and assessed emerging concerns affecting residents. While noting the prevailing calm, the chairman disclosed that the meeting examined recent unrest involving commercial motorcycle operators, adding that necessary steps had been taken to address their grievances and restore order.
He also raised concerns over incidents of motorcycle snatching, jungle justice, burglary, and theft, stressing that residents must refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He urged the public to report suspicious activities and criminal acts to relevant security agencies.
The chairman further highlighted the growing challenge of drug abuse among both youths and adults, revealing that security agencies are intensifying operations, including raids on identified hotspots, to curb the menace. He called on community leaders and other stakeholders to support these efforts with credible information.
Odulate emphasized that the peace of Sagamu remains non-negotiable, urging residents to stay vigilant and embrace the “see something, say something” approach, noting that consistent prosecution of offenders is key to achieving lasting deterrence. He commended the joint efforts of security agencies for their prompt responses and dedication, adding that a standing order framework has been introduced for the Joint Task Force to ensure swift action during emergencies.
The chairman reiterated that maintaining security is a collective responsibility and called on all residents to contribute to sustaining peace across the local government.
