ZAKAT AND SADAQAT FOUNDATION EMPOWERS WIDOWS, ORPHANS, OTHERS AT 2026 ZAKAT DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY IN SAGAMU
Widows, orphans and other vulnerable members of society received food items and other essential relief materials as the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF), Remo Zone, held its 2026 Zakat Distribution Ceremony on Saturday, June 28, 2026, at the Sagamu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Multipurpose Hall, Makun, Sagamu.
The annual humanitarian programme, which commenced at 10:50 a.m., attracted Islamic scholars, community leaders, donors, beneficiaries and other distinguished guests, all united in promoting the Islamic ideals of charity, compassion and social responsibility through the institution of Zakat.
The symbolic presentation and distribution of relief materials formed the highpoint of the event, with beneficiaries receiving food items and other essential supplies designed to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic hardship.
Speaking shortly after receiving the items, several beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation and its donors for the timely intervention. They described the gesture as a source of hope and relief and offered prayers for Allah’s continued blessings upon everyone who contributed to the success of the programme.
Earlier, the ceremony began with an opening prayer, followed by the introduction of dignitaries on the high table. Among those in attendance were the Wakili of Remo, Alhaji Ismail; the Chief Imam of Eyingbeti Central Mosque, Imam Abdulfatai Ariyo; Alhaji Abdulwaris Odewale; Alhaja Baliqis Akanbi; and Alhaja Ruqayah Adedeji.
The recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Abdulhameed Yekeen set a solemn and spiritually uplifting tone for the programme.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of ZSF Remo Zone, Mr. Adegboyega Misbaudeen, appreciated donors, volunteers, beneficiaries and invited guests for their unwavering support towards the Foundation’s humanitarian activities. He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to advancing the Islamic values of charity, compassion and social responsibility through its annual Zakat distribution initiative.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Day, Alhaji Moshood Akintunde, lauded the Foundation for its consistency in providing humanitarian assistance to the needy and urged individuals and organisations to continue supporting the initiative in order to expand its impact on vulnerable members of society.
A major highlight of the ceremony was a lecture delivered by Alhaji Idris Akanji (FCA), Deputy Bursar of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, on the theme, “Small-Scale Industry and Economic Growth: The Zakat Dimension.” In his presentation, he underscored the strategic role of Zakat in stimulating small-scale enterprises, empowering entrepreneurs, alleviating poverty and fostering sustainable economic growth within the Muslim community.
The Ogun State Coordinator of the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Alhaji Kewulere Abdulrahman Anifowose, delivered a goodwill message in which he commended donors for their generosity and sacrifice while encouraging beneficiaries to make prudent and productive use of the assistance received.
The ceremony rounded off with important announcements, a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, and a closing prayer.
Reaffirming its vision at the end of the programme, the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation pledged to sustain its humanitarian interventions through continuous support for widows, orphans and other vulnerable members of society, while encouraging more well-meaning individuals to embrace the Islamic obligation of Zakat as a veritable instrument for poverty alleviation and community development.
