Lidero Festival 2026 Day 2: After a Cultural Opening, the Streets Come Alive for the Marathon

Lidero Festival began yesterday with activities deeply rooted in culture and tradition. The opening day featured the Lidero Rites, Iwore, Ìṣẹ̀ṣe performance and Ijẹ̀ Agẹmo, giving the festival a fitting cultural beginning and drawing community members into the celebration.
Today, however, the streets take centre stage.
The Lidero Marathon brought together runners, young people, fitness enthusiasts and community members in an atmosphere of excitement, healthy competition and camaraderie. Furthermore, to encourage the participants, they were awarded and rewarded.
The sporting event is sponsored by Otunba Gbenga Abijo, whose support has helped make the marathon an integral part of the Lidero festival programme.
More than a race, today’s marathon adds a youthful and active dimension to Lidero, demonstrating how the festival continues to bring together aspects of community life, from indigenous traditions and cultural expression to sports and youth participation.
As participants prepare for the race and spectators gather along the route, anticipation continues to grow.
