Government’s Commitment to Rural Development Evident in Ogun State’s Latest Infrastructure Projects.

 

On August 21, 2026, a significant event took place in Ikenne, Ogun State, marking the official commissioning of a new office complex at the local government secretariat and the inauguration of 1 kilometer of new roads in Ikenne, Ilisan, and Ogere. The ceremony, which began at approximately 10 a.m., was held along New Koregun Road in Ilisan and attracted prominent dignitaries, government officials, community leaders, and residents.

 

The event kicked off with the commissioning of a borehole at Ope Adesanya Ward 2, Ikenne. This involved the installation of a submersible pump, erection of stanchions, construction of a storage tank, and civil works. The borehole project was commissioned by the former chairman of Ikenne, Akogun Otemolu, who is also a member of the AKOGUN GAC. Following this, the focus shifted to the main event along New Koregun Road in Ilisan, where the official commissioning ceremony was set to take place.

 

The event was formally introduced by MC Adaptor, who announced the arrival of distinguished guests. Among the notable attendees were Her Excellency, the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; Honorable Ganiyu Hazmat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Hon. Jamiu Mohammed Asimi, the Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government; and many others including political leaders, community representatives, and development partners.

 

The ceremony commenced with the singing of the Nigerian and Ogun State anthems, followed by an opening prayer. The event featured the introduction of dignitaries, a welcome address by Hon. Efuwape Muhammed, the planning committee chairman, who expressed gratitude for the successful realization of the projects. He also appreciated the leadership of the local government and the state government for their support.

 

Respective leaders delivered goodwill messages; the first was from Pa Kayode Soniyan, who commended the governor’s wife and local leaders for their dedication to community development. The former chairman, Akogun Otemolu, also expressed his appreciation for everyone’s participation and support. These messages underscored the collective effort and unity driving the development projects.

 

Cultural performances followed, showcasing the rich heritage of the community. Hon. Jamiu Mohammed Asimi, the Executive Chairman, delivered a comprehensive speech highlighting the scope of the projects. He announced the reconstruction of New Koregun Road and Sesan Akinsanya Road to improve intra-town connectivity, refurbishment of the local government office to enhance service delivery, and the installation of modern boreholes across ten wards to provide safe drinking water and curb waterborne diseases.

 

Furthermore, he outlined the construction of drainage systems along Akindoyin Street, Ikenne, and Amoro Street, Iperu, aimed at improving environmental sanitation and reducing flooding. Hon. Asimi appealed to citizens for their cooperation in maintaining these developments and ensuring their sustainability.

 

Her Excellency, the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, expressed her gratitude to all stakeholders and emphasized the importance of maintaining the new infrastructure. She appreciated the local government officials and community members for their support, urging everyone to keep the roads and drainage channels clean and free of waste.

 

The highlight of the event was the official commissioning of the New Koregun Road by the First Lady. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizers and a closing prayer. The event not only celebrated infrastructural progress but also reinforced the government’s commitment to rural development, community welfare, and improved living standards in Ikenne and its surrounding communities. This milestone marks a step forward in Ogun State’s ongoing efforts to foster socio-economic growth and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
