NIS Arrests Two With N34m Ransom, Intercepts 17 Migrants in Adamawa.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Adamawa State Command, has intercepted 17 undocumented migrants during an operation in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.In a separate operation conducted around the same period, the command also arrested two men found with N34 million in cash, which they allegedly identified as ransom money.
The two suspects, identified as 55-year-old Alhaji Jaye and 34-year-old Buba Bello, were reportedly arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026. During preliminary questioning, the suspects allegedly told investigators that the money was intended to secure the release of a kidnapped person.
The NIS said the arrests formed part of its ongoing efforts to tackle illegal migration and other security concerns within the state.Meanwhile, immigration operatives intercepted 17 foreign nationals at a private residence in Rumde Baru, a community in Yola South LGA.
According to a statement issued by the Adamawa State NIS Comptroller, Sule Jega, the migrants comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals and four Chadian nationals.The Cameroonian group consisted of eight males and five females, while all four Chadian nationals were male.
The command expressed concern over the location where the migrants were found, noting that the development suggested a change in the accommodation patterns of undocumented migrants.The NIS explained that irregular migrants had previously been more commonly found staying in hotels, but were increasingly using private residences as accommodation.
The command said the new trend could make monitoring and identification more difficult and therefore requires increased vigilance.The latest operation highlights the security and immigration challenges facing border communities in Adamawa, a state that shares an international boundary with Cameroon.
The NIS said it would continue surveillance and enforcement operations to identify undocumented migrants and address activities that could pose security concerns in the state.The arrested migrants and the two suspects are expected to undergo further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding their activities.
