Nine Killed in Ogun Highway Crash as FRSC Raises Alarm Over Speeding

Nine people have been killed in a road crash along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State, with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) identifying speed violation as the probable cause of the incident.

The crash occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Monday around the Bethel area of the Ijebu-Ode/Ore route, involving a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a Sino truck.

According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, the collision happened during rainfall, leaving the road wet and potentially increasing the risk of losing control at high speed.

The victims comprised three males and six females, all of whom died in the crash. The vehicles were identified as a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino truck operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.

The FRSC rescue team arrived shortly after the incident was reported and evacuated the victims, whose remains were deposited at the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode. The damaged vehicles were also towed to the Ilese Police Station by the Police Motor Traffic Division.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to reduce their speed, especially during rainfall, and to maintain safe following distances while observing prescribed speed limits.

He stressed that wet road conditions can reduce tyre grip and visibility, making excessive speed particularly dangerous.

The FRSC commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution and make road safety a priority.
