Boxing Legend Ray Mercer to Grace Street Rumble Season 2 in Lagos.
Former Olympic gold medallist and heavyweight world champion Ray Mercer is expected to arrive in Lagos for the second season of The Street Rumble, as organisers seek to further promote grassroots boxing and provide opportunities for emerging Nigerian fighters.
The boxing event, organised by Match Maker Sports International, is scheduled to hold on December 13, 2026, at Maracana Square in Ajegunle, Lagos.
Mercer, an American former professional boxer, will make a special international ringside appearance at the event. His participation is expected to add an international dimension to the competition and provide young Nigerian boxers with an opportunity to interact with a renowned figure in the sport.
The second edition follows the inaugural season held in April, which organisers described as successful. The organisers said the new season is designed to expand the platform and create greater opportunities for young boxing talents seeking to establish themselves professionally.
In addition to the appearance of Mercer, Match Maker Sports International has announced a partnership with Brila Media, which will serve as the official media partner for the second season of the competition.
Chief Executive Officer of Match Maker Sports International, Mike Adeyemo, said the organisers were pleased to have Brila Media join the event, noting that the partnership would help increase the reach of the boxing programme.
According to Adeyemo, Brila Media’s established presence in Nigerian sports broadcasting would help bring the activities of The Street Rumble to a wider audience.
He said the organisers’ focus was not only on staging boxing contests but also on creating a sustainable platform through which young fighters could develop their careers.
“Our mission is to give young fighters a platform, promote grassroots boxing, and build a movement that can create opportunities for the next generation,” Adeyemo said.
The organisers said The Street Rumble Season 2 would continue to focus on discovering and celebrating emerging boxing talents across Nigeria.
The involvement of Mercer, a former Olympic champion and WBO World Heavyweight Champion, is also expected to provide an international presence at the event.
With the December 13 date already announced, attention will now turn to the participating fighters and preparations for the event at Maracana Square, Ajegunle.
The organisers are positioning the second season as another step towards strengthening grassroots boxing and creating a pathway for young Nigerian athletes to pursue opportunities in the sport.
