Čeferin Rules Out FIFA Presidency Bid, Says Infantino Could Face Challenger in 2027
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has ruled out running for FIFA president, saying he is not interested in replacing Gianni Infantino.
Speaking on The Rest Is Politics podcast, Čeferin said he preferred to remain focused on his work at UEFA and that his credibility was stronger because he had no personal interest in the FIFA presidency.
Čeferin also said Infantino could face a challenger if he seeks re-election in March 2027. He indicated that Infantino could step aside if he believes he no longer has sufficient support, while a rival could emerge if he contests the election.
The comments come amid criticism of Infantino over FIFA’s now-abandoned proposal involving private investment in the organisation’s tournament rights. The proposal attracted opposition from UEFA and other football bodies.
