EFCC Urges Timipre Sylva to Appear Over Alleged $14.86m Financial Crime
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, to make himself available for questioning over an alleged financial crime involving $14.86 million.
The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, made this known on Monday while responding to Sylva’s allegation that the commission had conducted itself more like an organ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) than an independent government institution.
Oyewale said Sylva had been declared wanted and should make himself available to the commission.
The EFCC had previously declared Sylva wanted in November 2025 in connection with an alleged case involving $14,859,257.
Sylva resigned from the APC on August 31, 2026, and said he had forwarded a copy of his resignation letter to the EFCC. He also accused the commission of acting as an organ of the ruling party.
The allegation against Sylva remains subject to investigation and due process, while his claims about the EFCC’s conduct have not been established as fact.
