Ezinne Kalu Urges Nigerians in Berlin to Support D’Tigress at World Cup
D’Tigress guard Ezinne Kalu has called on Nigerians in and around Berlin, Germany, to turn out and support the national women’s basketball team as they begin their campaign at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup on Friday, September 4.
Kalu, 34, has been a key member of the Nigerian national team since featuring at the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Nantes, France. She made an immediate impact during the tournament, scoring 11 points, including a decisive three-pointer, in Nigeria’s 70–69 victory over South Korea.
The veteran guard has since been part of Nigeria’s historic run in the Women’s AfroBasket, winning five consecutive titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. Nigeria became the first country to achieve the feat after defeating Mali in the 2025 final.
Kalu also featured at the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain, where she averaged 10.6 points, three rebounds and 4.1 assists in seven games. Nigeria reached the quarter-finals of that tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will run from September 4 to 13 in Berlin, with Nigeria drawn in Group B alongside Hungary, Korea and France. The tournament will feature 16 teams competing for the world title.
With the competition taking place in Berlin, Kalu is seeking strong support from the Nigerian community in Germany as D’Tigress prepare to compete on the global stage.
