Former Puerto Rican boxer Prichard Colón has died at the age of 33, nearly 11 years after a serious brain injury suffered during a professional boxing bout brought his promising career to an abrupt end.
Colón died on Thursday, August 13, 2026. His father and former trainer, Richard Colón, announced his death in a Facebook post, saying he regretted informing the public of his son’s passing and expressing the belief that he was now in a better place.
Colón’s death comes almost 11 years after his final professional fight against Terrel Williams in October 2015. The bout ended after Colón suffered a serious brain injury and was subsequently taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
The injury ended the career of the once-promising boxer and left him with severe neurological complications. He spent years receiving care and support from his family following the incident.
Colón had built an impressive professional record before the 2015 fight, winning 16 of his 17 professional bouts, including 13 by knockout. He was regarded as one of boxing’s promising young prospects before his career was cut short.
