Ghana Court Sentences Nigerian Woman to Six Months for Fake Passport Documents
A Ghanaian court has sentenced a 41-year-old Nigerian woman, Franca Wilson, to six months imprisonment for attempting to obtain a Ghanaian passport using forged nationality documents.
According to the Ghana Immigration Service, Wilson was convicted by the Adabraka District Court in Accra after pleading guilty to the charges on May 12, 2026.
The Nigerian welder received six months imprisonment with hard labour on three counts, with all sentences to run concurrently.
Reports stated that Wilson was arrested on April 24, 2026, at the Accra Passport Application Centre after immigration officials detected inconsistencies in her nationality claims during the screening process.
“She was subsequently referred to the National Enforcement Department at the GIS Headquarters for further investigations,” the immigration service said.
Investigations later revealed that Wilson is a Nigerian citizen born in Rivers State to Nigerian parents.
Authorities said she submitted a forged birth certificate claiming she was born in Somanya, located in Ghana’s Eastern Region, to a Ghanaian mother.
However, investigators disclosed that she failed to provide credible details about the alleged Ghanaian parent during questioning.
The case is one of several recent incidents involving Nigerians facing prosecution in Ghana over fraud and identity-related offences.
In December 2025, two Nigerians — Ike Isaac and Emmanuel Egbe — were each sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for attempting to fraudulently obtain Ghana Cards using false identities.
