Horror Unfolds in Ifo: Pastor Murders Wife Over Infidelity, Dies in Road Accident.

In a tragic and shocking incident in Ogun State, residents of the Ogooluwa community in Akiode Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area, are grappling with the aftermath of a deadly domestic dispute that ended in tragedy. The community is now left mourning the loss of a couple whose lives were cut short within hours of each other, leaving behind only two heaps of fresh sand marking their graves.
The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. on Monday, August 31, at the couple’s three-bedroom bungalow situated beside the Celestial Church of Christ, Iri Orun Parish, which they both attended. According to reports, Bidemi Odukoya, the shepherd of the church, allegedly macheted his wife to death during a heated midnight argument. The motive reportedly stemmed from accusations of infidelity, though details remain unclear. Neighbors said the couple had lived peacefully in the community for nearly a decade, and they were generally regarded as respectful and friendly.
After the attack, Odukoya fled the scene, disappearing into the night. Just a few hours later, he was spotted at Coker junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, about 20 minutes from their home. In a tragic twist of fate, Odukoya ran into a moving truck and was killed instantly. His body was recovered and taken back to the community, where he was buried beside his wife later that evening.
The community, still in shock, finds it hard to believe such a violent event could occur among people they considered peaceful and responsible. Chief Taiwo Akiode, the Baale of the community, described the incident as unprecedented and deeply disturbing. “It is the first time such a tragedy has happened here. It is like something out of Nollywood films — nobody believed that such violence could happen among us,” he said.
Akiode recounted how residents were alerted to the incident around 3 a.m. after they discovered the wife’s body in a pool of blood, with machete wounds and a smashed stool believed to have been used to attack her. Police arrived at the scene and took photographs, but the husband was nowhere to be found. Later reports confirmed that Odukoya had committed suicide by jumping in front of a truck along the expressway. Witnesses said he had been crossing the road repeatedly before sitting on the median and then rushing toward the oncoming vehicle.
The community leader expressed concern over the tragic events, emphasizing the need for couples to seek peaceful resolutions in their disputes. “This should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. Marital disagreements should not escalate to this level. Love, patience, and understanding are vital,” he said.
Relatives and neighbors revealed that the couple often engaged in domestic fights, some reportedly leaving the wife injured. However, many expressed surprise at the level of violence, describing the couple as generally jovial and respectful. The incident, they said, was a shock and a reminder of the importance of addressing conflicts before they escalate beyond control.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. ASP Opeyemi Oluborode stated that the case was being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough inquiry.
This tragic event has left the community mourning, with many questioning how a peaceful household could suddenly turn so deadly. It underscores the urgent need for intervention, counseling, and awareness about domestic violence and mental health issues in Nigerian communities.
