INEC Puts National Voter Register at 103.4 Million Ahead of 2027 Polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released updated voter registration figures ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with Lagos State leading the country.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the figures during a stakeholders’ meeting and press conference in Abuja. He said the national register now contains 103,428,715 voters, following the completion of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and a biometric clean-up.

Lagos has the highest number of registered voters, with 7,488,633. Kano ranks second with 6,570,276, while Kaduna is third with 4,662,640.

Katsina occupies fourth place, recording 3,876,051 registered voters. Rivers State follows in fifth position with 3,736,434.

Oyo ranks sixth with 3,588,111 voters, while Delta is seventh with 3,525,988. Benue is eighth, with 3,057,225 registered voters.

Ogun State ranks ninth with 3,037,981, and Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547 voters.

The figures place four southern states—Lagos, Rivers, Oyo, Delta and Ogun, in fact five—among the 10 states with the largest voter populations. The list also includes five northern states: Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Benue and Bauchi.

The updated register provides a nationwide snapshot of voter enrolment following INEC’s registration and verification processes. The commission’s figures will be closely watched by political parties, candidates and other stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

With more than 103 million registered voters nationally, the size and distribution of the electorate will be a key consideration in election planning. INEC is responsible for maintaining the register and organising elections across the country.

The top 10 states, in order, are Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Rivers, Oyo, Delta, Benue, Ogun and Bauchi. Lagos leads by a margin of more than 900,000 voters over Kano, the second-ranked state.
