Nigeria Wins 35 Medals at Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championships
Team Nigeria won 35 medals at the 2026 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championships in Dakar, Senegal, finishing the competition with 17 gold, 14 silver and four bronze medals.
The medals came from individual and relay events as Nigerian junior and senior swimmers competed against athletes from across West and Central Africa.
The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) described the performance as one of Nigeria’s strongest outings at the Zone 2 Championships in more than a decade and congratulated the swimmers, coaches and technical officials for their performances.
NAqF President, Lekan Fatodu, said the medal haul was a significant achievement for Nigerian swimming, attributing the result to the commitment and hard work of the athletes and their technical teams.
The championship, held in Dakar and concluded on August 30, provided competition for swimmers from 14 participating nations. Africa Aquatics’ official coverage confirmed Nigeria’s strong presence from the opening stages of the competition.
