Odulate Inspects Earmarked Locations for Modern Shops in Awolowo Market, Promises Affected Traders New Shops

The Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Afolabi Odulate, today, inspected locations earmarked for the construction of modern shops and open stalls at Awolowo Market, Sagamu, saying traders whose existing shops will be affected by the project will be allocated new shops upon completion.

Odulate, who visited the market with engineers in charge of the construction project, said the intervention was being facilitated by Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan YAYI, the Ogun State gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections, for the benefit of the people of Sagamu Local Government.

Addressing traders at the market, the chairman explained the areas that would be affected by the construction and the arrangements being made to ensure that no trader is left stranded during the process. He clarified that the modern shops would not be sold, adding that while some existing shops would be demolished to create space for the new structures, traders whose shops are affected would receive new shops after the project is completed.

Odulate also disclosed that he had taken personal responsibility for documenting affected traders by going from shop to shop to collect their names and details. According to him, the exercise is aimed at preventing mistakes, misplacement of records or the exclusion of genuine traders from the arrangements.

He said the construction is expected to last approximately three months, with the current Papa/Ilaro Park to be used for the construction of open stalls as the first phase. He explained that traders whose shops are affected would be able to use the stalls while work continues on the modern shops.

The chairman acknowledged the temporary inconvenience the development may cause but appealed to traders to bear with the process and cooperate with the authorities, noting that Awolowo Market is due for a new look and that the project is intended to create a more organised and befitting environment for traders and customers.

Odulate assured the traders that their interests would be considered throughout the project and thanked Senator YAYI for facilitating the intervention and considering Sagamu Local Government for the development.
