Ogun State Governor Prioritizes Development of Ogun West Senatorial District

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rapidly developing the Ogun West Senatorial District, an area that has been historically neglected by previous administrations.

Speaking at the grand finale of the Oronna Day Celebration, held at Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government, Governor Abiodun acknowledged the significant contribution of the zone to the state’s revenue and food production. “Despite being the largest non-oil revenue earner and the food basket of the state, this zone was not given the attention it deserved,” he noted.

The governor shared a conversation he had with the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, where the monarch expressed frustration over the lack of completed projects in the area. “Kabiyesi called me and said, ‘Before you, all that happened here is that they would do some groundbreaking, but they never commissioned any project in this local government or in this zone.’ I told Kabiyesi that the narrative would change,” Governor Abiodun recounted.

True to his word, Governor Abiodun’s administration has undertaken several projects in the area. “We will do groundbreaking, and we will also commission projects. I beat my chest and proudly say that we have done just that,” he said. One notable project is the reconstruction of the Ilaro-Owode road, which has significantly reduced travel time. “The journey that used to take probably two and a half hours now takes just a few minutes,” the governor explained.

The Ogun West Senatorial District is crucial to the state’s economy, boasting the Agbara industrial estate with over 500 industries, as well as substantial limestone deposits and a major cement factory. Governor Abiodun’s administration has completed one lane of the Atan-Lusada-Agbara dual carriageway, with efforts underway to finish the second lane.

The governor praised the Olu of Ilaro and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adetola for their contributions to the area’s development. “I want to commend the Olu of Ilaro for his passion for the uplifting of Yewaland. I also want to commend Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adetola for his developmental projects, which have made life easier for the people,” he said.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the people, ensuring that development projects benefit everyone. “We cannot do it alone; we need the partnership and collaboration of our people. I urge you all to partner with us in our developmental efforts,” he appealed.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jubril, commended Governor Abiodun’s efforts to galvanize community development and celebrate the people’s heritage. “This celebration is not just about cultural awakening and survival; it can also be used as a developmental tool and a source of foreign exchange earnings,” he said.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Bosun Tijani, represented by Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, noted that the celebration was a testament to the people’s heritage and a call to action for development. “This occasion is a celebration of our heritage, and it is also a call to action for us to come together and develop our community,” he said.

The Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, appreciated Governor Abiodun for keeping his promise to extend developmental projects to all sections of the state. He appealed to the governor to work towards commissioning the housing estate sited in the town.
