TALENT HUNT SUCCESS: WAVES OF CHAMPIONS INSPIRE YOUNG ATHLETES IN OGUN STATE
The ancient city of Sagamu came alive with excitement and athletic brilliance on May 25, 2026, as Q&N Sport Development Limited successfully hosted the much-anticipated “Waves of Champions” event at the prestigious Gateway Stadium, Sagamu, Ogun State.
The colorful sporting event attracted dignitaries, athletes, students, coaches, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders in a grand celebration of youth talent, excellence, and sports development.
The event commenced on a solemn note with an opening prayer led by Alhaja Bolatito Adegbite, who offered prayers for the success of the program and the progress of sports development among youths. This was immediately followed by the formal introduction of dignitaries, as notable guests were warmly acknowledged upon arrival, reflecting the significance and prestige attached to the occasion.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Hon. Daisi Akitan, former Chairman of Sagamu Local Government; Hon. Sesan Soyebo, former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly; Coach Saidat Oladele, Head Coach of Athletes in Ogun State; Mrs. Tawakalitu Asenuga; alongside several other distinguished personalities from across the state.
The event also witnessed the royal presence of Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile, whose attendance added cultural honor and prestige to the gathering, further elevating the profile of the “Wave of Champions” initiative.
Speaking on behalf of Hon. Olamilekan Yayi, Hon. Daisi Akitan delivered a goodwill message emphasizing the importance of sports in talent discovery, youth engagement, and societal development.
He encouraged all participating athletes to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence, stressing that competitions such as the “Waves of Champions” serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing future champions capable of representing the nation at higher levels.
The sporting events featured several thrilling track competitions, including the 100-meter races for both boys’ and girls’ categories, the 400-meter races, and the 800-meter races for both male and female athletes.
Participants displayed remarkable energy, endurance, speed, and determination throughout the competitions, drawing applause and admiration from spectators and supporters who filled the stadium.
Adding more excitement to the event was a football match between Bashorun Ogere’s Club and Ilishan United Football Club. The encounter entertained football lovers with moments of skill and competitiveness, as Ilishan United Football Club eventually emerged victorious after an impressive performance.
A major highlight of the event was the fundraising session organized in support of youth sports development and talent nurturing.
During the session, Hon. Daisi Akitan donated the sum of ₦1,000,000 on behalf of Hon. Olamilekan Yayi. Mr. Dada Otusanya also contributed ₦200,000, while Mrs. Tawakalitu Asenuga donated ₦500,000. Several other dignitaries equally made additional financial contributions toward supporting young athletes and sustaining sports development initiatives.
The event proceeded with the presentation of medals and awards to outstanding schools that distinguished themselves during the competitions.
Makun High School emerged as the overall winner after securing an impressive tally of 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. United High School finished in second position with 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal, while Remo Divisional High School claimed third place with 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals.
Speaking during an interview session, Prince Adewale Adegbite explained that the vision behind the “Waves of Champions” initiative extends far beyond mere competition.
According to him, the primary objective of the program is the discovery, development, and nurturing of young talents capable of attaining recognition both nationally and internationally.
He noted that the initiative is focused on raising athletes who can proudly represent Nigeria on global sporting platforms while showcasing the immense potential and talent embedded within the country’s youth population.
The medal presentation marked the climax of the event as athletes, schools, coaches, and supporters celebrated moments of achievement, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship.
The successful hosting of the “Waves of Champions” event further reinforced the commitment of Q&N Sport Development Limited toward promoting grassroots sports development, empowering young athletes, and building a brighter future for sports in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
