Police Detain Two Suspected Cultists in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Abiodun Salami and Destiny Adeola, on suspicion of participating in cult-related activities in the Ijoko area of Sango-Ota, within the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, announced the arrests on Monday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended on August 8, 2024.
Recently, Sango-Ota, Ijoko, and surrounding areas within the local government have experienced frequent cult clashes, attacks, and killings. Regarding the arrest of Adeola and Salami, Odutola explained that the suspects, along with other members of the Eiye Confraternity, had gathered at a location in Ijoko when residents alerted the police.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the Anti-Robbery Squad was promptly dispatched to the area, leading to the arrest of Salami and Adeola, while others fled the scene. Items recovered at the scene included a toy silver pistol, locally made amulets, and suspected Indian hemp.
“When they saw the squad, they dispersed in different directions. Salami and Adeola were caught,” Odutola stated. “During questioning, Adeola admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He disclosed that he was initiated into the group in 2022 at Atan-Otan. We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the other members who are still at large.”
In a related incident, a suspected member of the group, identified only as Seun, was killed and beheaded during another cult clash in the Ijoko area in May 2024. The victim, a fuel attendant at a filling station in Alaroro, Ijoko, was believed to have been killed in a retaliatory attack.
