The Ogun East Women Conference 2025, themed “Women In Leadership; Building Capacity, Enhancing Participation & Securing Tomorrow,” was a momentous event held on September 25, 2025, at the Akarigbo Palace Hall in Ita Oba, Sagamu. The conference marked a significant milestone as it brought together women of vision, influence, and substance from across the region, united by a shared goal of empowering women to lead and shape the future of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
The event commenced promptly at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Mrs. Ajiboye Adebusola leading the opening prayer, invoking divine guidance and blessings for a fruitful gathering. The host of the day, Hon. Dr. Amb. Lizzy Jekami, CEO of JK Liz Concept and Glo, and the Governor’s Liaison Officer for Sagamu Constituency 2, warmly welcomed attendees. In her opening remarks, she expressed gratitude for the turnout and emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in societal development.
The high table was graced by distinguished guests, Mrs. Olasimbo Ojuroye, CEO of Sparkle Foundation, represented by Mr. Jeremiah; Princess Iyabo Odulate, President of Remo Women Initiative; Dr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, Nigeria’s former Accountant General; Chief Mrs. Yetunde Shakirat Asdesanya, APC Southwest Women Leader; and Omolara Sansa, Coordinator of Ogun APC Professional Women Council. The guest speakers, Dr. Mrs. Olusola Adenowo and Dr. Kolapo Adekoya, also took the stage to deliver insightful addresses.
In her welcome address, Hon. Amb. Lizzy Jekami expressed gratitude for the support from Ogun East APC Women in Council and acknowledged the presence of key political and community leaders, including the royal father, HRM Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Akarigbo of Remo land. She highlighted that for the first time, women from various backgrounds had come together under one roof to forge pathways for progress, unity, and leadership.
The conference recognized numerous women organizations such as Remo Women Initiative, Remo Progressive, National Women Parliament APC, Jeko Women, Makun Women, Egbe Oloja, and others. It also honored political forums and local government leaders from Remo land, Sagamu, Odogbolu, Ijebu East, Ijebu Ode, and Remo North, emphasizing the collective strength and influence of women in the region.
The first speaker, Dr. Mrs. Kolapo Adekoya, a counseling psychologist from Oyo State, delivered a compelling talk titled “From Overwhelmed to Empowerment.” She discussed how women could harness empowerment in business, politics, and personal growth, emphasizing the importance of confidence and skill-building. Her insights encouraged women to take charge of their destinies.
Mrs. Olusola Adesanya, in her presentation, addressed health issues affecting women over 50, including menopause, osteoporosis, diabetes, and hormonal imbalances. She stressed the importance of regular health checkups and good health practices, echoing the Yoruba adage, “Ilera Loro” — health is wealth.
The mother of the Day the CEO Sparkle foundation, Mrs. Olasimbo ojuroye delivered a powerful keynote speech on the theme, emphasizing that leadership is a legacy that requires preparation, courage, and vision. She noted that women have historically been leaders in homes, markets, and communities, citing icons like Queen Moremi, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo. She urged women to build their capacities through knowledge, skills, and confidence, warning that leadership begins with preparation.
Mrs. Olasimbo called on women present to actively participate in decision-making processes and to secure the future for generations to come by preparing themselves today. She affirmed that leadership is not only about today but also about leaving a lasting legacy.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Hon. Amb. Lizzy Jekami, who called for women to unite, nurture a collective front, and continue driving societal change. She lauded the Ogun East APC Women in Council for their visionary effort in organizing such a historic gathering. She encouraged women to rise, lead with purpose, and inspire future generations.
