Ogun SWAT Arrests Suspected Cultist, Recovers Two Pistols

The Ogun State Police Command says its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad has arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of cultism and recovered two locally made pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe during intelligence-led operations in the state.

The suspect, identified as Okiki Muhammed Adewusi and known by the nickname “Baba Obo,” was arrested on October 26, 2026, in the Ore area of Atan. Police said the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the squad.
After taking Adewusi into custody, officers searched his residence and reportedly found a locally made pistol and three live cartridges. The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to belonging to the Eiye Confraternity.
Police said information obtained during questioning prompted SWAT operatives to conduct a follow-up operation the following morning. That operation led to the recovery of a second locally made pistol and a battle axe.
The Command has not provided further details about the alleged cult-related activity or the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the second firearm. It said, however, that investigations are continuing as officers work to identify and apprehend other suspected accomplices and recover any additional weapons.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the SWAT operatives for their professionalism and praised the intelligence-led approach that resulted in the arrest and recoveries.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to disrupting criminal networks, tackling cult-related violence and curbing the illegal possession of firearms across Ogun State. The police said operations would continue as part of broader efforts to improve public safety and prevent weapons from being used in criminal activity.
The Command urged residents to provide credible information that could assist officers in locating suspects or recovering illegal weapons. It said cooperation from members of the public remains important to ongoing efforts to address cultism and related offences.
Adewusi remains a suspect, and the allegations against him have not been tested in court. The police said further action would depend on the outcome of the investigation.
