Gunmen storm residence of former Ogun LG chairman”

An armed gang in the early hours of Thursday raided the home of former Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Emilola Gazal, carting away cash, valuables, and his vehicle.

Gazal, who also publishes The Roots Magazine, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.

According to him, three gunmen broke into his Ijebu-Ode GRA residence around 2 a.m., seizing all the cash in his possession before compelling him to open his bank apps and transfer nearly all his funds to an account they provided—leaving only ₦5,000.

The assailants also took his wife’s jewelry and his ash-coloured car, telling him outright that they would be leaving with it.

“I am on my way to report the incident to the police at Igbeba and Obalende, Ijebu-Ode,” Gazal said.

It was reported that this incident comes amid a spate of violent robberies and home invasions reported across Ogun State, particularly in the Ijebu area

For example, earlier this year, the Ogun State Police Command killed a suspected armed robber in a gun duel along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway.

The command, on September 12, 2025, also recently arrested a man linked to a burglary and armed robbery in Ayetoro, amounting to about N1.5 million in stolen goods.

Meanwhile, the Amotekun Corps, the regional security outfit, has in previous operations confronted criminal gangs in gun battles, neutralising some suspects along Ogun’s border communities.
