Police neutralize kidnap suspects in Ogun case involving N30 million ransom
The Ogun State Police Command’s tactical team, in collaboration with other security agencies, successfully neutralized two of five suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim unharmed during a recent operation in the Onipanu area.
Police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola disclosed this in a statement shared with Journalists on Thursday. She explained that the operation was launched following the abduction of Alhaji Hassan Atoyebi on October 27, 2025, around 8:14 pm.
Odutola detailed that the kidnappers invaded Atoyebi’s residence, turned off the generator to lure occupants outside, and ambushed them. “Unaware of the danger, the victim and another resident came out to check what they believed was a mechanical fault but were attacked by the assailants, who then abducted Alhaji Baki Hassan Atoyebi,” she said.
The suspects also stole valuables during the attack, including a PoS machine, N900,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and keys to a Highlander and a Corolla vehicle, Odutola added.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted the victim’s family, demanding N30 million ransom for his release. In response, the police launched a coordinated operation involving officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Crime Section, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps, and local hunters.
The joint team tracked the kidnappers to their hideout along a creek. During the confrontation, two suspects were killed, while others fled with gunshot injuries. The victim was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with his family. Authorities also recovered his mobile phones and vehicle keys at the scene.
Ogunlowo commended the bravery and cooperation among the security agencies, assuring residents of the police’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safety. He reiterated that Ogun State would remain inhospitable to criminal elements.
This successful rescue adds to a series of recent operations by the Ogun State Police Command aimed at tackling crime and restoring peace in the area.
