PDP Faces New Division as Expelled Members Call for Urgent NEC and BoT Assembly.

A new political showdown is unfolding within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an expelled faction, led by Nyesom Wike, prepares to hold an emergency meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. The faction, which includes members loyal to the former Rivers State governor, was suspended by the PDP during its recent National Elective Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. Notable among those suspended are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, along with other loyalists.

The suspension was announced amidst the convention’s proceedings, signaling a significant internal rift within the party. However, just two days after the expulsion, Samuel Anyanwu, who is also serving as the factional National Secretary, issued a notice calling for an emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The notice, obtained by DAILY POST, emphasizes the importance of the gathering, urging members of the National Executive Council (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) to attend, stating that “crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”

This move signals an escalating power struggle within the PDP, with Wike’s faction seeking to challenge or bypass the disciplinary action taken against them. The timing and tone of the notice suggest that the faction is not willing to accept the suspension quietly and is gearing up for a possible confrontation or attempt to assert influence within the party’s hierarchy.

The upcoming meeting is expected to be pivotal in determining the faction’s future and the internal stability of the PDP. It remains to be seen how the party’s leadership will respond to this challenge, especially as the party navigates the complex landscape of internal dissent and factional rivalry ahead of future elections.
