Outrage in Enugu as Nsukka LG Chairman Allegedly Forces Staff to Register with APC.
Controversy has erupted in Enugu State over allegations that Jude Asogwa, the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, mandated all council workers to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The allegation was raised by social media influencer Chijinkem Ugwuanyi in a Facebook post, criticizing the move as a violation of workers’ rights and freedom of conscience.
Ugwuanyi claimed that both teaching and non-teaching staff in Nsukka were directed to report to Adada Hall for APC electronic registration, where they were required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN), voter cards, and bank details. The registration was said to be compulsory, with implied threats of job loss, intimidation, and victimization for those who refused to comply.
A circulated message reportedly sent to head teachers instructed all staff across Nsukka Local Government and its development centers to attend the registration by 9 am, with schools asked to organize staff attendance in batches to prevent disruption to pupils’ classes. Ugwuanyi condemned the directive, arguing that no government official has the authority to force civil servants or citizens to affiliate with a political party as a condition for employment retention. He expressed concern that the move might be part of an effort to increase APC membership ahead of the 2027 elections.
Several primary school teachers confirmed the development, with one anonymously stating that she was already preparing to attend, having received the message through her head teacher and WhatsApp.
As of now, the Nsukka Local Government Chairman has not issued any public response to the allegations, leaving the matter unresolved and stirring public outrage over potential political interference in civil service affairs.
