Grand Farewell as General Reverend Apostolic Mother Christianah Abeni Somotun Is Laid to Rest
A large gathering of family, church leaders, dignitaries, and well wishers lined Sagamu/Ikene Road to pay tribute to General Reverend Apostolic Mother Christianah Abeni Somotun, fondly called Mummy Sabo, as she was laid to rest in a solemn yet celebratory burial and thanksgiving ceremony.
The memorial event, held at Grace Event Center, Aanu Hall, Sagamu/Ikene began with a stirring rendition of hymns from the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) hymn book by the church choir, setting a reverent tone for the proceedings. The opening prayer, led by an
Apostle, was followed by scripture readings and intercessory prayers for the late Reverend, her children, family members, and the church community.
The service underscored Mummy Sabo’s deep spiritual influence and her unwavering commitment to faith.
Among the dignitaries present were His Lordship Bishop Elder AP PRO S.S. Jayesimi of JPIL, senior apostles, and notable civic figures including the Akarigbo of Remo Land, Dr. Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Ajayi, represented by his staff bearer, and Otunba Gbenga Daniel, represented by Evangelist Segun Okeowo. Their presence highlighted the respect and admiration Mummy Sabo commanded across both religious and civic communities.
During the service, Pastor Alabi delivered a reflective lecture on life, legacy, and existence. He recounted Mummy Sabo’s spiritual contributions, emphasizing her unwavering dedication to family, church, and community. He described her as a beacon of faith whose life reflected service, compassion, and leadership.
Superintendent Apostle Kayode Adebayo, the officiating moderator, invited the children of the late Reverend to participate in the thanksgiving segment, reinforcing the importance of honoring a life devoted to faith, service, and family. In line with Mummy Sabo’s philanthropic spirit, contributions were collected to support the development of the church, ensuring her legacy of generosity and community service would continue.
The funeral ceremony reached its solemn climax as Mummy Sabo was laid to rest at Sagamu Anglican Cemetery, with prayers, scripture readings, and a final hymn marking her burial. A tribute by the church Brigade provided one last ceremonial honor, celebrating her life of service and devotion.
Following the burial, guests reconvened at Grace Event Center, Oro Ofe Hall for a lively thanksgiving reception. MCs Lekkymore (OGBC) and Sisiologe (Remo Radio) welcomed attendees and guided the program, which featured live musical performances and vibrant dance presentations by Mummy Sabo’s children and grandchildren.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous spread of food and drinks, ranging from traditional Nigerian delicacies to assorted refreshments. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and merry-making as family and friends celebrated Mummy Sabo’s life. Many attendees described the scene as “merry merry,” with dancing, and heartfelt toasts ensuring that her legacy of joy and community spirit lived on.
