Former Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, Ph.D, FCA, FCCA, FCNA, FIASP, FPIA

First Female Accountant General of the Federation (Rtd.) marked her 61st birthday with a grand celebration that featured the public presentation of her new book and the launch of a foundation dedicated to empowerment and education.

 

 

The well-attended event took place at the Lagos Marriott Hotel Ikeja and brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, professionals, and associates to honour the retired public finance expert, who made history as the first female Accountant-General of the Federation.

 

 

OPENING CEREMONY

The programme began with the rendition of the Nigerian National Anthem led by the Masters of Ceremony, Funmi Omoboriowo and Babatunde Adeloye.

This was followed by the opening prayer delivered by His Eminence, Prophet Oliver Ali Abba of the Methodist Church Nigeria.

 

 

Several dignitaries were recognised at the event, including former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, represented by Dr. Mrs. Funke; Former Head of Service of the Federation Folashade Yemi‑Esan.

 

Others acknowledged included Dr. Rekiya Yusuff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chairman of Professional Women of Nigeria Dr. Otunba Solomon Ojukaye, Dr. Afolabi Idowu Omoniwa, Dr. Omoniyi Fagbemi, Olori Kemi Adetona, Omo Oba Abiola Ogundeko of the Remo Chapter, Mr. Taiwo Ogunyinka, Mrs. Tajudeen Olayinka, Omooba Osinowo, Aare Dr. Kola Oyefeso, Elder Tutu Buraimo, Mrs. Ola Erinfolami, Otunba Wale Abdul, Giwa Saheed Oloyede, and Gbuyi Olajide Odubona, both of Egbe Degbuyi Remo, among others.

 

ROYAL FATHERS GRACE THE OCCASION

 

The event was also graced by several traditional rulers who attended as Special Guests of Honour. Among them were the Ebi of Idena, Iperu; Oba Lukman Oluwadamilare Adebambo Salami (Sebu II); the Onimeji of Imeji, Iperu, Oba Babatunde Kayode Olayebo-Soda (Gbadewolu I); the Alagbehinsha of Agbehinsha, Oba Isiaka Adekanmi Ogunnaike (Odumowu I); the Aregun of Iregun, Oba Abraham Adedoyin Ogunfowora (Ewu Nla, Orijajogun I); Oba Olufemi Ogunleye; and

HRH Oba Taiwo Taiwo (Amororo II), the Onipara of Ipara Remo. Also present were other important dignitaries, including, Omooba Ladi, Princess Iyabo Odulate and Asiwaju Adeleke Osilaja.

 

WELCOME ADDRESS

Delivering the welcome address, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr Joke Sofowora, described the celebrant as a resilient professional and trailblazer who served Nigeria with dedication.

She highlighted the Celebrant’s achievements during her tenure as Accountant-General of the Federation, praising her discipline, resilience, and commitment to public financial management. Dr Sofowora noted that the gathering was not only to celebrate her birthday but also to recognise her remarkable contributions to national development.

 

 

LAUNCH OF OLOWO OLOYE FOUNDATION

 

A major highlight of the event was the official launch of the Olowo Oloye Foundation for Empowerment and Education, aimed at supporting educational initiatives and empowering individuals across communities.

 

Prince Gbolahan Oso, while speaking at the launch, noted that the foundation was established to provide sustainable support for education and empowerment programmes.

 

Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba also commended the initiative, stressing the importance of expanding access to free education and encouraging guests to support the foundation’s long-term legacy.

 

PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF “Beyond the Ledger”

Another key moment of the celebration was the unveiling of Madein’s book titled “Beyond the Ledger: A Journey in Public Finance and Governance.”

Former Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Folashade Yemi-Esan, reviewed the book, describing it as a compelling account of the author’s journey through Nigeria’s public finance system and governance structures.

She explained that the book explores critical themes such as fiscal discipline, responsible borrowing, and the economic realities surrounding budget management, while offering insights into the complexities of public financial administration.

 

The book was formally unveiled by business mogul, Sir Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, who was represented by Aare Kola Oyefeso, and Chief Solomon Onafowokan, the Asiwaju of Remoland, who commended the author for documenting her experience in public service.

 

 

GOODWILL MESSAGE

Delivering a goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of the National Revenue Service, Zach Adedeji, commended the author and noted that the book contributes meaningfully to conversations around financial efficiency and stability.

Also acknowledged was Hon. Iman Sulaiman‑Ibrahim of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, who was represented at the event by Mrs. Ola Erinfolami.

 

Similarly, Dr. Kayode Fasua, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and Director-General of the Nigerian College of Accountancy, spoke about the celebrant’s contribution to the accounting profession in Nigeria.

 

 

DONATION AND TRIBUTES

Following the unveiling, donations were made by several distinguished guests in support of the book launch.

Former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel was also invited to address the gathering. In his remarks, he praised Madein for her hardworking nature and dedication to public service over the years.

 

 

 

THANKSGIVING AND CELEBRATION

The celebration continued with musical worship and thanksgiving in honour of the celebrant.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake by Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, marking her 61st birthday.

In her response and vote of thanks, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein expressed heartfelt appreciation to family members, friends, colleagues and guests who attended the event to celebrate with her.

She thanked them for their love, support and presence on what she described as a very special day in her life.

 

 

The event concluded with a closing prayer, followed by music and dancing as guests joined the celebrant in a joyful celebration of her life, achievements and enduring legacy.
