From Wake-Keep to Burial: A Life of Impact Remembered in Ilisan-Remo
Family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers gathered in Ilisan-Remo to bid a final farewell to the late DCC James Olusegun Olasunkanmi Efuwape, whose wake-keep and burial ceremonies drew emotional tributes and reflections on a life well lived.
The wake-keep, held on April 29, 2026, at his residence, was officiated by Venerable Fadipe of St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church. The service featured prayers, hymns, and scripture readings, creating a solemn atmosphere of reflection.
In his message, Venerable Fadipe spoke on life and salvation, urging attendees to reflect on their conduct and seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Tributes poured in from family and friends. His daughter, Omolola Efuwape, described him as a loving and responsible father who was always present for others. She noted that she stood not only as a daughter who loved her father but as someone who was deeply loved by a great man. She also shared a personal story about courage that she pledged to hold on to.
A close friend described the deceased as more than a friend but a brother, highlighting his selflessness and humble nature. A family member also spoke of his role as a unifying figure who consistently worked to bring peace, unity, and happiness within the family.
All speakers emphasized his contributions to the community, friends, and family, noting that his absence would be deeply felt and that he would be dearly missed.
The wife of the deceased, Mrs Kenny Efuwape, gave an emotional tribute, recounting his final moments and describing his prayers for others even on his deathbed as a reflection of his kindness and humanity. She expressed gratitude for the support shown to the family and vowed to continue upholding his legacy.
The final burial rites were held on April 30, 2026, beginning with a funeral service at St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church, also officiated by Venerable Fadipe.
In his sermon, he urged attendees to live meaningful lives in Christ and remain focused on the Kingdom of Heaven, offering prayers for the family and all present.
The service was attended by sympathizers, including members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who came to pay their last respects.
Interment followed at the deceased’s residence, where a gun salute was performed in his honour, with another observed after the burial as a final mark of respect.
The ceremonies were marked by deep emotion and reverence, as attendees reflected on the impactful life and enduring legacy of DCC Efuwape, whose memory will continue to live on in the hearts of many.
