Alleged Task Force Collecting Driver Fees Illegal, Sagamu LG Chairman Says
The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, has denied authorising any task force to collect ticket fees from commercial drivers within the area.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the chairman said his office had been alerted to a circulating video and related posts claiming that a local government-backed task force had been deployed for the collection of fees from drivers.
Odulate described the claim as false, stressing that no directive was issued by the local government for such an exercise.
He said any individual or group parading themselves as representatives of the council to collect money from drivers is acting illegally and without approval.
The chairman advised commercial drivers and members of the public not to comply with such demands, warning that those involved in the act should be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
He added that his office should be notified of any such incidents, assuring residents of his commitment to transparency, order, and the protection of lives and property.
