IPERU CELEBRATES ANNUAL ORO FESTIVAL, HOLDS ISEMO ON SATURDAY

The ancient town of Iperu-Remo in Ogun State has commenced its annual

Oro Festival, a week-long traditional celebration that began on Tuesday, 30th June, 2026, and will conclude on Wednesday, 8th July, 2026.

As part of the observance of the revered cultural festival, residents and visitors are advised that movement restrictions for women and girls will be in effect daily between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. throughout the festival period.

This was made known via a public announcement issued by High Chief Ifasola Saheed Ojelade OPEODU, the Oluwo of Iperu, Head of the Imobido Dynasty, and Head of Osugbo Iperu/Traditional Worshippers, and made available to the media through Temitope OYEKAN Media Officer, Iperu Indigenes Forum.

The traditional authorities further announced that Saturday, 4th July, 2026, designated for the sacred Isemo rites, will observe a total restriction of movement for women. The restriction will commence at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 3rd July, and remain in force until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, 5th July, 2026.

To reassure commuters and businesses, the organisers stated that all major roads leading into and out of Iperu-Remo will remain open throughout the festival for commercial activities and transit. This arrangement is intended to ensure uninterrupted access to the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, and neighbouring communities.

Comprehensive security measures have been put in place to guarantee the free flow of vehicular movement along designated transit corridors within the community. Security agencies, including the Divisional Police Officer of Iperu Division, the Area Commander of the Ikenne Area Command, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and other law enforcement personnel, have been notified and are expected to provide adequate security throughout the festival.

The organisers appealed to residents, visitors and the general public to cooperate with the traditional authorities and security agencies by complying with all directives issued for the duration of the festival.

The organisers expressed prayers for a peaceful and successful celebration, invoking the blessings and protection of the ancestors upon the community and all who pass through Iperu during the festival.
