INEC Receives Sensitive Materials Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
Sensitive election materials have arrived in Osogbo ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intensifies preparations for the August 15 poll. The commission also says it will draw ad-hoc personnel from a pool of more than 30,000 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to support the conduct of the election.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, disclosed this while giving an update on preparations for the August 15 poll. He said the exact number of ad-hoc personnel to be deployed had not yet been finalised.
The commission also confirmed that sensitive materials, including ballot papers and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, are being kept securely at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). INEC said the materials would be moved to local government offices and Registration Area Centres closer to Election Day as part of its security and logistics arrangements.
According to INEC, Osun has 2,339,233 registered voters, although the commission said it was yet to provide the latest figure for voters who collected their Permanent Voter Cards following the extension of the collection exercise.
With election logistics and security preparations underway, INEC says the arrangements are aimed at ensuring the timely deployment of personnel and materials for the commencement of voting on Saturday.
