TINUBU ORDERS FIVE-YEAR NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT ASSESSMENT, DEFENCE PLAN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate preparation of a comprehensive National Threat Assessment and a rolling five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

The President also directed his Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa, to coordinate the process and provide secretariat support for the committee responsible for preparing the plan.

According to the Presidency, the initiative is designed to improve coordination among Nigeria’s defence, intelligence and security agencies and provide a unified framework for responding to the country’s evolving security threats.

The directive was issued following discussions on national security and the need for stronger coordination among the country’s security institutions.

President Tinubu said recent successful security operations demonstrated the importance of effective collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated action among security agencies.

The five-year plan is expected to provide a strategic framework for defence operations and national security priorities, while ensuring that security agencies work towards clearly defined objectives.

The development comes amid continuing security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other threats affecting communities across the country.

The Presidency said the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to anticipate and respond to emerging threats while improving coordination across the nation’s security and defence structure.
