Abuja Power Outage: AEDC Confirms Restoration of Electricity Supply.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced the restoration of normal electricity supply to Abuja and other areas within its franchise following the resolution of technical issues affecting power transmission from the Shiroro Transmission Station.The development comes amid conflicting explanations from AEDC and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over the cause of the recent reduction in electricity supply to the Federal Capital Territory.

AEDC had earlier disclosed that its power allocation dropped significantly from about 641 megawatts to 314 megawatts. The company attributed the decline to the tripping of 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Station.

However, TCN disputed the claim, describing AEDC’s explanation as inaccurate and misleading. According to TCN, the 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja remained operational and were not responsible for the reduced electricity supply.The transmission company instead attributed the situation to insufficient power generation on the national grid, maintaining that there was no transmission failure responsible for the reduction in AEDC’s allocation.In a fresh statement issued on Thursday, August 27, AEDC announced that the situation had been resolved.

The company said the transmission constraints affecting Abuja and other parts of its franchise area had been fully addressed. AEDC added that technical issues on the transmission lines from the Shiroro Transmission Station had been rectified by TCN, resulting in the restoration of its power allocation to normal operational levels.The distribution company also expressed appreciation to electricity consumers for their patience and understanding while its technical teams and industry partners worked to restore stability.

Despite the latest announcement, AEDC did not directly respond to TCN’s earlier rejection of its explanation concerning the cause of the reduced power supply.The two agencies therefore continue to maintain different accounts of what triggered the recent electricity shortage, although AEDC has confirmed that power allocation has now returned to normal levels.
