Nigeria Set for Maiden Wheelchair American Football Exhibition in Lagos
Nigeria is set to stage its maiden Wheelchair American Football exhibition on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the National Institute for Sports (NIS), National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The exhibition, organised by American Football Elite Development (AFEDEV), will feature four teams Lagos Dynamos, Iron Invicta, Liberty Pioneers and Atlantic Chargers competing in a knockout format, with the winners of the semi-finals advancing to the final.
The event follows more than two months of training by participating athletes and is intended to introduce wheelchair American football to a wider Nigerian audience while promoting greater inclusion and opportunities for persons with disabilities in sport.
According to AFEDEV, the exhibition is also part of a broader plan to develop a structured pathway for athletes with disabilities to train, compete and potentially pursue careers in American football. The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of adaptive sports in Nigeria.
The September 10 exhibition will mark an important step in expanding access to American football and creating greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities in the country.
