Adekunle Gold Reveals Genotype Influenced Decision to Marry Simi

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that genotype compatibility was an important consideration in his decision to marry fellow singer Simi.
The singer, who has publicly spoken about living with sickle cell disease, said he and Simi checked their genotypes early in their relationship to determine whether they were medically compatible. Recent reports quoted him as saying he would not have proceeded with the marriage if Simi had an SS or AS genotype.
Adekunle Gold, whose real name is Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, has previously spoken publicly about being affected by sickle cell disease and has used his platform to raise awareness about the condition.
He and Simi, who have both established careers in the Nigerian music industry, married in 2019.
His disclosure has renewed attention on the importance of genotype testing and informed reproductive decisions, particularly among couples at risk of having children affected by sickle cell disease.
