FUTI Targets 2027/28 Academic Session for University Education
The Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), formerly the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, has announced plans to commence full university education in the 2027/28 academic session as its transition to university status progresses.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the institution, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, disclosed this while reflecting on his four years in office. He said the transition was progressing strategically, with the institution working towards meeting the requirements for the commencement of university education.
According to the institution, its student population has grown from fewer than 10,000 to more than 27,000, while the number of academic programmes has increased from 34 to more than 100.
The institution is also preparing for National Universities Commission (NUC) verification and developing an Academic Brief, alongside plans for a new institutional Master Plan.
FUTI said its planned university structure will initially cover nine faculties, including Engineering Technology, Sciences, Environmental Technology, Communication and Information, Computing, Agriculture Technology and Visual Arts, among others.
The institution’s transition follows the establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro under federal law, with university-designated principal officers appointed in 2026.
The 2027/28 academic session therefore remains the institution’s stated target for the commencement of its university education as the remaining academic and regulatory processes are completed.
