Ogun Police Arrest Man Accused of Impersonating Military Personnel

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Akinola Damilare, popularly known as “General Don,” on suspicion of impersonating military personnel.

The suspect was apprehended at approximately 2:00 a.m. on 3 November 2026 at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta. According to the Command, the arrest followed credible information provided by a community leader and discreet surveillance by operatives of its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.

Police said items recovered during the operation included a military face cap, a pair of three-quarter military trousers and four photographs showing the suspect dressed in military uniform. The items have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Command said investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether anyone else may have been involved. It did not provide further details about the suspect’s activities or the period during which the alleged impersonation may have occurred.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to addressing impersonation and other criminal activities across Ogun State. He also encouraged residents to report suspicious conduct promptly to the police.

The Command said cooperation from community members can help officers identify potential threats and respond to concerns. It urged residents to share relevant information through appropriate police channels rather than confronting suspected offenders themselves.

The arrest follows information from within the community, which police say enabled officers to carry out surveillance before apprehending the suspect. The Command noted that investigations remain in progress and that further steps will depend on the findings.

The suspect remains subject to the ongoing investigation. The allegations have not been established in court, and the investigation will determine the facts of the case and any further action that may be required.

The Ogun State Police Command said it would provide additional information as appropriate.
