Ogun Police Warn Vandals After Suspect’s Arrest and Recovery of Iron Rods

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man over the alleged vandalism and theft of railway materials in the Arigbajo area.

The suspect, identified as Shobande Taofeek, was apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit following intelligence reports about the illegal removal of railway infrastructure.

Police said surveillance and patrols were stepped up in the area, leading to Taofeek’s arrest on October 23, 2026. The operation was part of efforts to curb the destruction and theft of public infrastructure.

After his arrest, the suspect reportedly led officers to an uncompleted building, where they recovered 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders. The police said the items were believed to be connected to the alleged offence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Taofeek allegedly admitted to taking part in similar acts on three previous occasions. The Command did not provide further details about the alleged incidents.

Police said investigations were continuing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other people suspected of involvement. Officers are also working to locate and recover any additional materials believed to have been stolen.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting public property and critical infrastructure. He warned that anyone found responsible for economic sabotage would be brought to justice.

Ojajuni also urged residents to support law enforcement by providing credible information about suspicious activities. He said public cooperation was important in preventing crime and strengthening security across the state.

The arrest comes amid police efforts to address the theft and damage of infrastructure, which can disrupt public services and impose costs on government and communities. Railway materials, including iron rods, form part of essential transport infrastructure, and their removal can pose safety risks as well as cause damage.

The Command has not disclosed whether the recovered materials have been formally linked to a specific railway site or whether charges have been filed against the suspect. Taofeek remains under investigation as police continue their search for other alleged participants.

Authorities have encouraged members of the public to report information through appropriate police channels and to avoid confronting suspects themselves. The investigation is expected to establish the full circumstances of the alleged vandalism and determine the roles, if any, of others.
